Notaries use their own individual seals which have historical origins and are regarded by most other countries as of great importance for establishing the genuineness of a document.

A notary’s seal Is registered with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and with many Foreign embassies and consulates.

Procedures exist for the seal to be further authenticated, using a process called “legislation”.

The Notaries Society

The Notaries Society is always prepared to assist if there is a difficulty and operates an informal complaints procedure which has been approves by the Court of Faculties.

If serious allegations are involves then the Court of Faculties has power to conduct its own investigation and disciplinary process.
